Albert Nelson Marquis - Our founder, Albert Nelson Marquis is born on January 10, 1855 in Brown County, Southern Ohio. Orphaned as a child and raised by his maternal grandparents, he worked at his grandfather's general store as a boy, and after his grandfather died, he managed the store from age 18 to age 21. He then moved to Cincinnati, where he then found the publishing company.

1958 – Who’s Who of American Women Debuts

In December 1958 Marquis Who’s Who announces the publication of the 1st edition of Who’s Who of American Women. 

The directory contains 20,000 women of stature in numerous fields, ranging from education to business to the arts and communication. Some of the women selected for Who’s Who of American Women are also in Who’s Who in America.
